Strawberryfest is taking shape
June 1 and 2 will be here before you know it and that means Strawberryfest is right around the corner! This year expect even more great food, rides and games. Oscar the Robot will be back to entertain the crowd and don’t forget the strawberries!
Strawberryfest begins Friday, June 1 with food and craft vendors ready to welcome summer. Combat the summer heat with a serving of homemade ice cream from the Jasper County Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber will also be selling homemade ice cream, strawberry shortcake, floats and fresh strawberries.
Live entertainment begins at 3 p.m. Friday with a performance from Clyde and the Boys with Plastic Soul rounding out the evening from 7 to 10 p.m.
The Strawberryfest parade begins at 11 a.m. June 2. This year the parade will continue past the square and across Rt. 130. Make sure to watch the parade closely, because the parade entries are part of a scavenger hunt. If you find all the clues, you could win Chamber Bucks that can be used at businesses that are members of the Chamber of Commerce.
The Berry Babies and Shortcakes pageant will follow the parade; so grab lunch at one of the food vendors while you watch. Look for the chance to vote for your favorite Berry Baby or Shortcake around Newton.
From 1:30 to 3:30, old-fashioned games take center stage at Strawberryfest. Put together a team now for Bed Races and Blind Leading the Blind. Winners of each game receive Chamber Bucks.
At 4 p.m. Kiley Phillips and her band will take the stage. Kiley performed at Strawberryfest last year and was a big hit! IV-Given will perform from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and don’t miss Matt Poss & the Wild Bunch from 8 to 10 p.m.
To learn more about the parade, old-fashioned games, or for your very own Strawberryfest t-shirt, contact the Jasper County Chamber of Commerce at (618) 783-3399. Make plans to attend Strawberryfest June 1 and 2. Come for the strawberries, stay for the fun!
